Yonsei University Health System, Severance Hospital

The key member of the fund is -HOSPITAL SEVERANCE Health Systems at Yonsei University.

From the day it was founded in 1885 , to this day, the main mission of the hospital is to help and serve people. Having traveled a long path of more than 130 years, and transformed from a small private hospital, created by missionaries from America, into an advanced, multidisciplinary medical organization, the Yonsei University Health System includes:

  1. Sinchon Severance Clinic
  2. Five highly specialized medical centers
  3. International treatment and diagnostic center for foreign citizens
  4. Da Vinci Robotic Surgery Training Center
  5. Dental Clinic
  6. Gangnam Severance Clinic, which includes two district clinics and three highly specialized medical centers




A well-established network of medical institutions and high-quality service of each specialized institution separately is an advantage of the Health System at Yonsei University and the guarantee of its reliability.

Among the achievements of Severance:

  1. Korea’s first specialized Cancer Center (founded in 1969).
  2. Korea’s largest pediatric clinic specializing in the treatment of pediatric oncology.
  3. Korea’s first international diagnostic and treatment center for foreign patients (opened in 1962).
  4. Leading Medical Technology Research Institute:
  5. In 2008, Severance Clinic was selected by the Ministry of Health of Korea as the leading research clinic.
  6. Asia Robotic Operations Center
    • The first clinic in Korea to introduce a Da Vinci robotic surgery system.
    • Application of the robot in surgery: high technology, high quality (PET, Tomotherapy, Gamma Knife)
    • First place in the world in the number of laparoscopic and automated operations to remove a cancerous tumor of the stomach at an early stage
    • Highly effective prostate treatment
    • Operations for stenting the cardiology department

Using advanced medical technologies, the clinic annually carries out about 1400 operations on coronary angioplasty and endoprosthetics.
